Pipe connectionsThe BIO-BLOK® rainwater drywell does not require special fittings to be connected to the inlet pipe. This means you are free to choose which connection type is the easiest and most practical in each case. Regardless of the choice, this is far cheaper than if you were to purchase extra fittings.
Pipe connections can either be made in the top, bottom or directly on the side of the drywell. EXPO-NET recommends that connections are always made either in the top or bottom of the drywell. The reason for this is that the risk of clogging is significantly less than if the inlet pipe was fitted directly into the side of the drywell.
Connection in the bottom
Connection from the bottom of the drywell is especially good since it offers the possibility to clean sand, leaves, etc., if these were to pass through the associated roof well. You will also save on excavation depth, which can be a huge advantage in areas with a high groundwater level – see schematic diagram by clicking on the picture icon below.

If you choose to connect to the bottom, the drywell will be placed at a higher level so that the area above the groundwater level can be used for seepage into the soil.
Please not that BIO-BLOK® rain water drywell must be placed in areas without heavy loads – e.g. grass and garden areas.
Please also note that drywells with this connection type must be ventilated to the nearest roof well or equivalent.

Connection in the top
If you choose to connect to the top, the inlet pipe should be fed an appropriate length above the drywell and either end in a 90 degree bend leading into the top of the drywell, or be plugged or capped following the drilling out of an appropriate number of holes in the underside of the pipe, which faces downwards across the top of the drywell so that the conducted water flows freely into the drywell.

Connection to the side
If a connection is made in the side of the element, the use of a hollow drill is recommended for cutting away the material in the element, so that the pipe can be inserted into the element at an appropriate depth. This prevents the pipe from shifting.

For pipe connections in the side of the drywell, the fibre cloth is cut to fit the pipe connection by cutting out a small cross in the cloth and fastening the “flaps” created to the connecting pipe with plastic strips or similar material.
The joint can be further protected against soil ingress by wrapping the pipe bushing with an extra piece of fibre cloth.
